Royals' Aviles leaves game with hand injury
DETROIT (AP) - Kansas City Royals shortstop Mike Aviles left the game against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday after he was hit in the hand with a pitch.

Aviles got hit while he was swinging at a pitch from rookie Armando Galarraga in the top of the seventh.

Aviles immediately collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain as he held his hand. The ball traveled a few feet into fair territory. Detroit catcher Dane Sardinha picked it up and tagged Aviles for the final out of the inning.

The team said he has a right index finger contusion and that X-rays were negative. Aviles is day-to-day.

He was replaced in the field in the bottom of the seventh by Tony Pena Jr.

The rookie shortstop, who joined the team on May 29, has provided a spark offensively. He was hitting .330 with seven homers and 38 RBIs.
