--IF Luis Hernandez made his first Royals start on Mother's Day at shortstop. His previous big-league start was Mother's Day 2008 with the Orioles at Kansas City.

--RHP Kyle Davies limited the Angels to one run and three hits in six-plus innings Sunday. It was his first quality start since April 19 at Texas.

--RHP Luke Hochevar will make his first start Tuesday at Oakland after being recalled Sunday. Hochevar was 5-0 with a 0.90 ERA in six starts with Class AAA Omaha. In his previous start, he threw eight scoreless innings Thursday against Memphis, allowing five hits, striking out nine and walking none.

MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Joakim Soria (stiff right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 8.

SS Tony Pena Jr. (fractured hamate bone in left hand) went on the 15-day disabled list May 3. He had surgery May 5, and he is expected to miss four to six weeks.

RHP Doug Waechter (right elbow strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 18. He began a minor league rehab assignment May 4.

3B Alex Gordon (torn cartilage in right hip) went on the 15-day disabled list April 15. He had surgery April 16 and could be out until the All-Star break.

LHP John Bale (thyroid surgery on March 3) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He pitched in extended spring training on April 22, and he was scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment May 5.
