--3B Alex Gordon was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip injury that will require surgery Friday to repair a tear. OF Mitch Maier was recalled from Class AAA Omaha to take Gordon's roster spot.

--CF Coco Crisp is hitting just .226, but his .385 on-base percentage ranks second on the team. He is among the American League leaders with eight walks.

--C Miguel Olivo struck out two more times Wednesday, bringing his total to 13 with no walks in 21 at-bats. Olivo has five multi-strikeout games in the six games he has played this year.

--RHP Gil Meche, who starts Friday at Texas, is 2-6 with an 8.10 ERA at the Rangers' home park. He is 4-9 in 16 career outings, 15 of them starts, against Texas.

MEDICAL WATCH:

3B Alex Gordon (sore right hip) went on the 15-day disabled list April 15. He will have surgery April 16 to repair a right hip labral cartilage tear.

OF Jose Guillen (torn right hip flexor tendon) went on the 15-day disabled list April 10. He is expected to return as soon as he is eligible.

LHP John Bale (thyroid surgery on March 3) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. When he regains his strength and stamina, he will be activated, but he likely will pitch at least one or two games on a minor league rehab assignment first.
