--RHP Juan Cruz worked a perfect eighth with the help of a fantastic diving catch by RF Willie Bloomquist on a Brett Gardner fly to pick up his first American League victory. Cruz was 0-3 with the Athletics in 2005. He was 4-0 with the Diamondbacks in 2008.
--RHP Joakim Soria has struck out five in three innings and allowed one hit with one walk. Soria, a 2008 American League All-Star closer, is 3-for-3 in save opportunities this season.
--DH/1B Billy Butler is hitting .059, 1-for-17 with two walks and seven strikeouts in the first six games. He was held out of the lineup Sunday, but did draw an eighth-inning walk that ignited a three-run rally.
MEDICAL WATCH:
3B Alex Gordon (sore right hip) left the April 11 game and did not play April 12. He is day-to-day.
OF Jose Guillen (torn right hip flexor tendon) went on the 15-day disabled list April 10. He is expected to return as soon as he is eligible.
LHP John Bale (thyroid surgery on March 3) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. When he regains his strength and stamina, he will be activated, but he likely will pitch at least one or two games on a minor league rehab assignment first.
