He tied Juan Acevedo, who had 28 saves with the Tigers in 2002, for the most saves in a season by a Mexican-born pitcher. --OF Jose Guillen, who was in 2-for-27 slump and missed the game Sunday with a groin injury, homered in the first inning. It was Guillen's first homer since June 23, a span of 91 at-bats without a home run.
--SS Mike Aviles had three hits, including a first-inning single. He has 10 hits in his last 15 games in the first innings.
--3B Alex Gordon's home run was his first since July 1 at Baltimore. His three-hit game was his first since May and only his third of the season.
