--RHP Joakim Soria worked a perfect 11th inning, striking out two, to log his 22nd save in 23 opportunities. He has retired 23 of the past 24 batters he has faced.

--LHP Ron Mahay worked two scoreless innings and picked up the win, running his record to 4-0. He has yielded just one earned run in his past 10 appearances, lowering his ERA to 2.13.

--RHP Zack Greinke, who was 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in four interleague starts, is still searching for his first victory over the Orioles. Greinke left trailing 5-1 after five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, including a home run, with one walk and five strikeouts. Greinke got a no-decision when the Royals rallied for a 6-5 triumph in 11 innings.

--2B Mark Grudzielanek, who celebrated his 38th birthday Monday, went 1-for-4 with a walk against the Orioles.

--"He threw me three breaking balls, and I saw a hanging breaking ball and got a good swing." -- PH Miguel Olivo on his tying home run with two outs in the ninth inning off Orioles closer George Sherrill.

--DH Billy Butler made his first start since his Saturday recall and had three hits, all singles, and grounded into a double play.

--RHP Yasuhiko Yabuta, who the Royals optioned to Class AAA Omaha last week, was roughed up in a relief appearance Monday, taking the loss at Iowa. He allowed three runs on six hits and a walk in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out one.

--RHP Daniel Cortes, who is considered the Royals' top pitching prospect, went five innings and allowed three runs on five hits as Class AA Northwest Arkansas picked up a 7-3 win Monday at Corpus Christi. Cortes walked two and struck out five.

BY THE NUMBERS: 6 -- The Royals' six-game winning streak, which ended June 28 against the Cardinals, was the club's longest since Kansas City began the 2003 season 9-0.
