Kansas City Royals Notes, Quotes 2009-04-22
--The Royals grounded into six double plays Tuesday, a club record, in an 8-7 loss at Cleveland. CF David DeJesus, 2B Alberto Callaspo, 3B Mark Teahen, C Miguel Olivo and CF Coco Crisp (2) grounded into DPs. And the six were in consecutive innings, third through eighth. The Royals last grounded into five double plays on July 1, 1995, an 11-5 loss to the White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.

--"Six double plays, that's tough to do in one game. That's frustrating. Grounding into that many double plays, we didn't make adjustments." -- Royals manager Trey Hillman.

--The Royals pitching staff entered Tuesday's game having issued the second-fewest walks in the American League, but RHPs Sidney Ponson, Robinson Tejeda, Juan Cruz and Kyle Farnsworth and LHP Horacio Ramirez combined to walk nine Indians. Ponson walked three in the first inning.

BY THE NUMBERS: 8 -- Royals pitchers who have struck out at least 10 in a game and walked none, through April 19. RHP Zack Greinke had accomplished that three times, more than any pitcher in Kansas City history.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It?s definitely been a bad two weeks." -- RHP Jeff Farnsworth, who came into the week 0-3 with an 18.90 ERA and had given up seven runs on seven hits, including two home runs, and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. Farnsworth is in the first year of a $9 million two-year contract with the Royals.
