Kansas City Royals Notes, Quotes 2009-04-18
--3B Mark Teahen, C John Buck, DH Mike Jacobs and RF Willie Bloomquist all doubled in the seventh inning. The last time the Royals had four doubles in an inning was against the Rangers last year.

"I'm just a little slow," said Teahen, on settling for singles in his final two at-bats when he needed a triple to complete the cycle.

--Royals minor leaguers SS Juan Rivera and C Joseph Billick were suspended 50 games Friday after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances.

According to the commissioner's office, Billick tested positive for metabolites of Stanozol, while Rivera tested positive for metabolites of Nandrolone. Four of the 10 minor leaguers suspended this year for violating the drug policy are Royals.

--1B/DH Mike Jacobs went hitless in the Royals' opening series at Chicago, striking out four times in seven at-bats, but his bat came alive at Kauffman Stadium. Jacobs hit .389 with an .889 slugging percentage and four RBIs in the Royals' just-concluded six-game homestand. He had extra-base hits in five of the six games. As Kansas City won two of three from the Indians, Jacobs went 4-for-8 with two home runs and a double.

--RHP Luke Hochevar, the top pick in the 2006 draft, is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts with Class AAA Omaha. He picked up the victory Wednesday over Round Rock, giving up two runs and five hits over six innings, while striking out four and walking two.

BY THE NUMBERS: 14 -- Major league-low runs scored by the Royals in their first six games.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I like the aggressiveness there, especially because I know Mark (Teahen) knew it was a left-handed-throwing outfielder (Shin-Soo Choo). Nine times out of 10 he's not going to be able to field it like that and throw it to second base. The one time he does, the guy behind him hits a home run," -- Royals manager Trey Hillman on Teahen out trying to stretch a single to right-center into a double Wednesday. Mike Jacobs, the next batter, homered to center.
