--Mark Teahen has started three games at second, one in right and one at third base in the first six games. Teahen, who is hitting .300, has also been used as a late-inning defensive first baseman.

--C John Buck became the first Royal to hit a home run at the "new" Kauffman Stadium, a solo blast in the third inning off Yankees RHP Joba Chamberlain. "With Joba, you don't think it would be given up by that guy," Buck said. "He's obviously pretty filthy. It's funny when you get a good guy on the mound and you're just trying to think contact, sometimes things will happen. I tried to look out over the plate.
