Kansas City Royals Notes, Quotes 2008-06-03
--RHP Leo Nunez, suffering from a Grade Two tear of his right lat, and LHP John Bale, suffering from a broken left hand, do not appear as if they will be coming off the disabled list anytime soon. "Nunez can't throw at all," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "Johnny is continuing his exercises. He takes the splint off every now and then and does minimal hand exercises. I don't know the timetable, but he might be able to pick up a ball while we're on this road trip. Neither will go on this trip." The Royals open a seven-game road trip Tuesday in Chicago. Hillman said the two pitchers are "not yet" close to reporting to the Royals complex in Surprise, Ariz., to do on-the-field rehabbing.

--OF Jose Guillen was selected as the team's Player of the Month for May, hitting .308 and leading the team with 33 hits, 11 doubles and 21 RBIs. Guillen has hit .356 since May 7, which ranks fourth among American League players in that stretch.

--RHP Joakim Soria was voted Royals Pitcher of the Month for May, converting all six save chances and holding opponents to a .163 batting average. He had a 2.19 ERA, allowing just three runs and seven hits in 12 1/3 innings, while striking out 13 and walking five.

--RHP Brett Tomko went 1-4 with a 6.37 ERA in May and has been dispatched to the bullpen. RHP Kyle Davies has replaced him in the rotation.

--The Royals have been hit by 12 pitches in 57 games, a pace for 34 HBPs this season. In 2008, the Royals set a franchise record with 89 HBPs. 2B Mark Grudzielanek, who was hit by a Paul Byrd pitch Sunday, leads the team with three.

BY THE NUMBERS: 12 -- Royals' losing streak, the longest in the majors this season, was snapped with a 4-2 victory Saturday over the Indians. That was the longest losing streak in the American League since the 2006 Royals lost 13 straight.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Too many babies here. They don't know how to play the game and win the game right, the way it's supposed to be played. And that's the problem here. Now I know why this organization's been losing for a while. Now I know." -- OF Jose Guillen, when the Royals were mired in a 12-game losing skid.
