--DH-1B Billy Butler returned March 6 in a B-game for the first time since being hit by a pitch on his left hand March 1. Butler struck out three times, but also hit a three-run homer.

--UT Esteban German, who hit .245 with no home runs and 22 RBIs in 216 at-bats last season, was designated for assignment to make roster space for RHP Juan Cruz.

--RHP Brandon Duckworth was scratched from Friday's relief appearance because of illness.

--The Royals forfeited their second-round draft pick to the Arizona Diamondbacks for signing RHP Juan Cruz, who was classified as a Type-A free agent.

--3B Alex Gordon hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and two doubles over a three-game stretch.

--RHP Doug Waechter was set back by a minor blister on his right middle finger but should be ready to pitch in exhibition games soon.

--LHP Neal Musser signed a minor league contract with the Astros after he was released when the Royals signed INF Tug Hulett on Feb. 19.
