Kansas City Royals Inside Pitch 2008-06-30

Kansas City Royals Inside Pitch 2008-06-30
If Royals fans want to boo Jose Guillen for jogging to first base at times, go ahead and jeer. He thrives on it.

"I could care less about the fans and when they boo me," Guillen said. "They boo me earlier in the season when I was struggling. So what? How am I doing now? That would not bother me."

"I don't (care) about the fans. They can... boo me all they want. I don't care because they don't know what's going on. They don't know what is going on with Jose Guillen."

Guillen said both his groin muscles and hips are "all messed up," which hinders his running. He said his lower half has been bothering him for three months.

"I love that," Guillen said of the boos. "I'm not the type of player that is going to put pressure on myself because fans are booing me. That will not happen. If I don't have a reason to be running the way I was running, then they have a way to boo me. Maybe if I pushed a little bit harder that day, maybe I blow out my leg and maybe Jose Guillen will be out for the season. You guys want me to go on the DL?"

Guillen said manager Trey Hillman and the coaching staff know about his soreness in he groin and hip.

"I'm totally against that when I see players kind of jogging and stuff like that," Guillen said. "I don't like that. I was embarrassed that day because I cannot give anymore than what I was giving down the line that day."

Guillen leads the Royals with 13 home runs and 60 RBIs.

CARDINALS 9, ROYALS 6: Jason LaRue, who played for the Royals last year, drove in four runs with a home run and triple, while Albert Pujols, who went to high school and junior college in Kansas City, hit a two-run homer. Royals' starter Brian Bannister faced 26 batters and 13 reached bases -- nine hits, including LaRue's homer, and four walks -- in 4 2/3 innings. The Royals chased Cardinals starter Braden Looper in the fourth, but they could never seize the lead after St. Louis jumped out 5-0. Mark Grudzielanek had four of the Royals' 13 hits.
