Callaspo was released just before noon after appearing before a municipal judge via video camera.
"It is certainly a regrettable situation," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. "Alberto is very remorseful. He's a super kid and he cares. He's working hard to make changes. Unfortunately, this is a situation nobody is proud of, but we're going to manage through it. We don't expect these type of behavior patterns of players that we employ.
"I can't control the actions of another human being, so I don't beat myself up on it. You just manage through it the best you can and gather all the facts and at the appropriate time make a decision on what we need to do."
Manager Trey Hillman met with Callaspo before the Friday night game with the Cardinals.
"We've talked at length," Hillman said. "We're still gathering as much information we can. Beyond that, I really don't have too much to say other than that it was an unfortunate incident. We are going to handle it internally as soon as we've collected all the facts. We're continuing to gather more and more facts and try to get all the facts before we address it."
Callaspo didn't play in Friday night's game.
ROYALS 7, CARDINALS 2: Alex Gordon drove in four runs, matching his career high, and David DeJesus had three hits and drove in two runs as the Royals won their sixth straight and 11th in 12 games. Gordon's three-run double in a four-run second was the key blow. He also homered in the fifth. Gil Meche worked seven innings, allowing one run and six hits, to pick up the victory. Meche has won three consecutive starts.
