***SPOILER ALERT: The Angels beat the Giants in seven games.***
That's how many of the Angels spent their morning. The veterans assumed spots on the clubhouse couches, with the newbies standing at their lockers.
"Look how fit I was, son," John Lackey yelled across the room when the screen flashed images of him as a 23-year-old rookie.
Only Lackey, Scot Shields and Chone Figgins remain from that championship squad, but plenty of current Angels sat glued to the screen.
They whooped it up when 20-year-old Francisco Rodriguez struck out Giants hitter after Giants hitter with a nasty slider.
"Got some fresh faces," Lackey yelled.
SEANEZ NEAR SIGNING
The Angels are close to signing 40-year-old reliever Rudy Seanez, but Seanez would be weeks away from contributing.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Seanez would likely spend time at extended spring training before joining Class AAA Salt Lake.
"He's going to need some time," Scioscia said. "I don't know what that time frame would be, but it's not like we'd see him here in a week or two." Seanez has played for nine teams during his 17-year major league career. He last pitched for the Phillies in 2008, going 5-4 with a 3.53 ERA in 42 relief appearances.
The Angels' bullpen corps entered Thursday's game with a 6.90 ERA, last in the league.
KENDRICK LOSES HOMER
Howie Kendrick had the day off Thursday but he still managed to lose a home run in the official stat book.
The Major League Baseball scoring committee unanimously overturned Kendrick's inside-the-park home run on May 8 against Kansas City. Outfielder Jose Guillen will be charged with a four-base error.
Television replays appeared to show the ball carom off the closed glove of Guillen. Royals starting pitcher Gil Meche, who hadn't allowed a home run all season, took exception to the ruling by official scorer Mel Franks.
The Royals appealed the home run call by sending a letter and replay of the play to Major League Baseball.
LACKEY EXCITED
Lackey will make his season debut on Saturday at the cozy The Ballpark at Arlington.
"I've taken a few beatings there," Lackey said. "I think just about every pitcher in this league has taken a few beatings there."
Lackey is 5-5 with a 6.00 ERA in 14 games in Arlington. He's worse only at Fenway Park (6.34 ERA) and PNC Park in Pittsburgh (7.50).
He'd be wise to remember his most recent outing in Arlington, when he struck out 12 Rangers during a 7-3 win on Sept. 21.
Lackey's just excited to rejoin the rotation. He's been on the disabled list all season with an elbow strain.
"I'm just ready to get back, man. I don't care where it is," Lackey said. "I'm tired of watching."
